Did you know...

That you will live forever?

It's true!  Each of us has a soul that will live for eternity.  The  common misconception that only Christians live forever is completely false.  Everyone does! Wow.  What a concept.  Let reality sink in for a moment.  Can you really measure the time required for "forever?"  Probably not.

Now, with that reality in mind - let me ask you one more question...

Do you know
where you will be in 30 years?... 50 years?... 100 years?

If not -You should.  It is not uncommon for people to plan for their future.  When we are little we dreamt about what we wanted to be when we grow up.  When we grow up, we find ourselves planning for our retirement.  But how far in the future have you started planning?

The Bible says in Hebrews 9:27:

"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this the judgment."

What can I do to earn a place in Heaven?

Many people have the mistaken idea that if you live a “good” life and do good for other people that God will just let your sins slide and invite you into His heaven. Fortunately for us, salvation does not depend on our “good” works. Even if I could relive my best day repeatedly for the rest of my life – my “goodness” would never measure up to God’s standard of righteousness. Isaiah 64:6 states that, “….all our righteounesses are as filthy rags.” When compared to God’s standard of righteousness we all fall short and could never hope to earn a place in with Him in heaven.

Thankfully God gives us eternal life as a gift, with no requirement of merit on our own. No matter what our failures or shortcomings in life, we will always have the assurance that God’s love and saving grace. What a wonderful reality!

Why should I be concerned?

The Bible says in Romans 3:23,

“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Why is that so significant? It’s telling us that we have all sinned. No one on earth deserves God’s love and grace. All the good works, charitable contributions and church services in the world cannot serve as a substitute for payment of your sin.

Sound hopeless? Not at all!  It is for this reason that God provided a way to heaven for us. He gave us the promise of eternal life and gift of His Son, Jesus Christ.

The Bible says in 2 Peter 3:9,

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

What Promise? What Gift?

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have ever lasting life. (John 3:16)

Jesus Christ gave His life to pay for our sins. Knowing we could never make it to heaven on our own merit, He died and paid the penalty of sin for us.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

Christ Died for Me?

Yes. He gave His life so you could live eternally in heaven with Him. But what is more amazing is that He rose again! Only God himself has power over death. He will extend that power over you, delivering you from the bondage of sin and death, if you will trust Him and accept His gift of salvation.

So How Do I Receive this Gift?

The Bible says,

“If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

You can be saved by recognizing your own sinfulness and the fact that God not only died for your sins, but rose again, conquering death and the power of sin over you.

You need to simply realize that you are a sinner and ask God to forgive you and save you, acknowledging His death, burial and resurrection as your only atonement for sin.

Once a person has asked God to save them, they inherit the promise of eternity in heaven with Him.

“In my Father’s house are many mansions,…I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2)

The Bible is filled with many promises that offer hope, encouragement and direction for all believers. The Lord says in 1 John 5:13,

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye many know that you have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the same of the Son of God.”
